One Friday night Kiyo and I decided to try a new Ramen place near our apartment, Tamashii Ramen. My favorite place for ramen is in Honolulu, and so far I haven’t found anywhere in New York that makes it as well (leave suggestions in the comments!). We began with an order of pork gyoza, a standard side dish for any ramen meal. They were good.
For the main dish, I ordered shoyu ramen and Kiyo ordered charsiu (extra pork). They also added rice into his broth, which wasn’t on the menu. For a small extra fee, I had bok choy added to mine. This was in addition to the half hard-boiled egg, seaweed, bamboo shoots, chives and charsiu. The toppings were all very good, and the meat was amazing. I usually don’t eat a lot of the charsiu because it tends to be very fatty, but I ate almost all of this. The charsiu has a rich, deep flavor; the broth, sadly, did not. It tasted a bit too fishy for my liking and was a bit bland otherwise. If you want a decent bowl of ramen, this place will do; and the other appetizers that we didn’t try just might be as delicious as the charsiu.
